1. Click the "profile" button located bellow the banner.
2. Your profile's info will be shown. Click "Modify Profile" link.
3. Scroll down and you will see "Avatar URL" this where you will paste the direct link of the image you want to use.
4. You can create an account at Photobucket.com and upload your photo or simply search.
In this case we searched for "mikey way".
Copy the "Direct Link" of the photo you want.
5. Paste the link to "Avatar URL".
6. Scroll down to the bottom and click "Modify Profile" button to save changes.
Done!
In addition...
If your photo is portrait in size, for example the above image you can see that the avatar is shrunk.
So I will resize and change the height to 100.
